4ADandJagjaguwarhavecollaboratedonalivesessionthatcapturesatrulyuniqueBonIverperformance,featuringJustinVernonandSeanCarey.OnrecenttoursfanswillhavebecomeaccustomedtoseeingVernonflankedbyaneleven-pieceband,withtheswellinnumberslendingagrandioseelementtoevenhismostdelicatesongs.Sidesteppingexpectations,theideaVernonpresentedforthissessionwastoprovideawildlydifferentexperience. RecordedinAIRStudio'sLyndurstHall-abuildingthatwasoriginallyachurchandmissionaryschooldesignedin1880bythegreatVictorianarchitectAlfredWaterhouse(designeroftheNaturalHistoryMuseum)-VernonwasjoinedonlybyCarey,withthepairpositioningthemselvesoppositeoneanotherattwograndpianos.AlthoughneitherJustinnorSean'sfirstinstrumentispiano,theywereabletoremodelthesongsinawaythatshowcasestheircomplimentaryvocalsand,perhapsmorestrikingly,aseeminglyeffortlessabilitytoexperimentwithformandstructure. Assuch,fansaretreatedtojaw-droppinginterpretationsofseveralsongsfromboththenewalbumandthe'BloodBank'EP,aswellasacoverofBonnieRaitt's"ICan'tMakeYouLoveMe".Andinterpretationisanaptword,asthesesongsareartfullyabstractedfromtheiroriginalincarnations.Ratherthanlayerthesoundason'BonIver,BonIver',thefocusisonparingback,inpartevokingtheminimalistapproachofcontemporaryclassicalmusic,whileremainingtrueenoughtothesourcematerialtoretainthoseelementscharacteristicofBonIver.
